The Appalling Leadership of King Henry V :: European Literature

In Henry V, the actions of King Henry portray him as an appalling leader. Among Henrys many negative traits, he allows himself to be influenced by population who have anterior penurys. This is problematic because the decisivenesss might not be the best decisions for the country, or neighboring countries. The bishops convinced Henry to take over France because they would be competent to save land for the Church. Henry doesnt have the ability to accept responsibility for his actions, placing the blame on others. Before Henry begins to take over a cut village, he tells the governor to surrender or risk having English troops terrorize civilians. This way, if the governor declines, it would be the governors fault for the atrocities that would occur. Henry has gotten his troops to go along with the take over by manipulating them. He tells the soldiers that what theyre doing is noble, and that they should be proud. In fact, theyre attacking another country in secernate to conquer it. Henrys character comes off as coldhearted and careless. Henry shows ruthlessness towards civilians, threatening them with atrocities. Hes careless with his soldiers, thoughtlessly allowing their executions, or playing hurtful games with them. France takeover is mostly due to Henrys accepting advice from the bishops who had a motive for their judgment. In Act 1, Scene 1, Henry is promised a large sum of money by the Church to help fund his takeover of France. In order for Henry to receive the money he would have to take against a certain bill that the bishops, Ely and Canterbury find obstructive to the Church. Soon, Henry goes to Ely and Canterbury to help him decide whether its first-rate for him to take over France under Salic law. Clearly, Ely, and Canterbury would have a good reason to suggest Henry take France since he would have to accept the Churchs money, and thus vote against the bill. Canterbury tells Henry he should pursue the take over arguing that it is illegal for Fra nce to use the Salic law since it originated in Germany. As well, he argues that the manner in which preceding French kings have claimed the throne would have been in violation of the law. So with this argument Henry decides to go ahead with taking over France. The problem is that Henrys decision was motivated by a goal of the Church. A decision that holds thousands of lives at stake is decided on so one group of people could benefit.

Our Barbies, Ourselves Summary Essay -- essays research papers

Our Barbies, Ourselves Summary In an article in Interview Magazine, Emily Prager discuses her opinions of Mattels toy doll Barbie world designed by Jack Ryan, husband to Zsa Zsa Gabor, and designer of troops missiles. The concept that a doll for young girls was designed by such a soul greatly shocked Prager. Suddenly a lot of things make sense to me says Prager. The element that Ryan designed Barbie may explain some of the key aspects of the doll itself. Although Barbie was created as a toy for girls, the sexual nature of the doll suggests it was created for the amusement of men and envy of women. Prager compares the figure of Barbie to the kind of women who would be seen in the Playboy mansion or be a frequent guest on obvious television shows. This is the image of a mans... Essay --

Q1A According to Marx, historical philistinism has been controversial and is a scatter of the evil that has caused class struggle. Ruling and lower were two classes that were struggling against each other till cardinal fin all in ally wins and becomes the new ruling power. Marx and Eagle clear highlighted the importance of both classes in Communist Manifesto, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (pg. 344). Marx, who began his argument by stating his belief that all humans should be able to live equivalent lives under self-governing rule, and materialism, is a system that stops such equality from being achieved. A corking example is that Marx connects the existence of classes through the ownership of private property and the desire to gain more property. According to Marx those who own their own property (bourgeoisie) force others who do not have their own property (Proletariat) to work for them. For Marx, materialism is the desire to acc rue more possessions and belongings therefore forms an odds-on society and if the society is unequal in nature some people will gain more than others and will be in position of power over others. According to Marx, materialism is a key factor of the class struggle and inequality.b) A According to Marx, economic exploitation is treating workers unfairly by not paying workers for their actual labor. He also said that workers are exploited in capitalism because they create value of a good however, workers are not the ones who get the profit that is salaried when that value is bought. According to Marx, such systems in which production people are allowed to own the labor power of other people the relation of class is cognize as slavery. On the other hand, when the rights and... ... other hand, Marx saw bourgeois country as a progressive force against the old feudal system. Marx supported democracy in capitalism. He worked for a society in which preliterate would take power and exer cise the control over the means of production.c) A In Marxs view, class struggle takes a critical form with the development of capitalism. According to Marx two basic classes bourgeoisie, the owners of the means of production and Proletariat, the workers around which other less measurable classes are grouped, oppose each other in capitalist system. On the other hand, for Mussolini the idea of class system is pointless and for him fascist state is one where a hierarchical society exists. Mussolini assumes that in this universe there is a fruitful inequality of mankind. (pg. 443). Mussolini also believes that fascism is the only way to properly drive citizens.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Woman in White :: Compare Contrast Lee Woman White Essays

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper lee side (post 1914) and The Woman in face cloth by Wilkie Collins (pre 1914)I chose the book To Kill a Mockingbird as I had read it a composition agoand had enjoyed it a great deal, I was also interested in the themesand subjects covered in it, such as Prejudice, innocence, how a mindset affects peoples opinions etc My only if problem was I had no ideawhat to compare it to as I am not a huge fan of classical literature, and do not know many books of this style. My teacher suggested I tryeither Jane Eyre or The Woman in White, as they both covered thethemes and subjects of To Kill a Mockingbird. First I tried JaneEyre, after a few chapters I decided to try The Woman in White, asI found Jane Eyre quite monotonous and dull. The first few chaptersin The Woman in White were also quite dull but at nigh chapter 8/9it starts getting really interesting soon after I couldnt put itdown. It is now one of my favourite booksThe Woman in White is a story about t he horrific acts a man of highstatus could commit in the 1800s and get away with (Sir PercivalGlyde). The story begins by introducing us to Walter Hartright, who isthe primary narrator, through him we have our first encounter with thewoman in white (Anne Catherick), who hints that she had been terriblywronged by an evil baronet (who we soon discover to be Sir PercivalGlyde). Sir Percival is engaged to Laura Fairlie, the beautiful artstudent of Mr Hartright. But Laura and Mr Hartright are in love, thetriangle ends with Laura and Sir Percival marrying and Mr Hartrightgoing to Central America to try to forget Laura. It turns out that SirPercival has a terrible secret, which Mrs Catherick (Annes mother)knows it is that he is not really a baronet he becomes paranoid ofAnne discovering it so he sends her to an asylum. In addition, he isin great debt, which is why he marries Laura as she is set to inherita great fortune. This is the base of which a terrible conspiracy takesplace, which rob s Laura of her identity and money then locks her up inan asylum. The rest of the story concerns her revenge, and how it waspossible for such a thing to take place. To Kill a Mocking Bird is also based around how an devoidwho is wronged simply to suit a persons personal needs.

Humorous Speech by an Old Friend of the Groom (Bridegroom) :: Wedding Toasts Roasts Speeches

Humorous Speech by an Old Friend of the Groom (Bridegroom)Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen. On behalf of the bridesmaids, I would kindred to thank Michael for his kind words, and I have to say they were absolutely wonderful and have done an excellent job today - I mean the bridesmaids, not the words. Now, its customary in these speeches to tell a story about the bachelors (stag) party, but in this case it wont be possible. Thats because Michael has insisted on having his stag party after the wedding. So instead, I was going to tell you about a night out in the big city that Michael and I recently had, which entangled beer, bad food and Michael bent over the toilet all night. solely this is Magdalenes day as well, and I dont want to ruin it with Michaels vulgarity. So Ive stubborn to look elsewhere for my material. I started by writing down everything I could think of that Michael and I have done over the 23 years weve been friends (mates). But even this wasnt particularly fru itful, as a lot of it would have got Michael strung up by his mom (mum), some of it would have got me strung up by my mom (mum) and some of it simply involved Michael stringing himself up with a couple of vacuum cleaners within easy reach. So, as it was quite challenging approach path up with anything of real substance to tell you about Michael, I thought Id explain how our bride and groom got together. The romance began, as Magdalene describes it, after an expeditiousness to the cinema was arranged with five or six mutual friends. But on the night, only Michael and I could make it. We enjoyed each others company so overmuch we went out together every evening for the rest of the week. The romance began, as Michael describes, after Magdalene individually bribed six people to pull out of a devolve on to the cinema so she could finally have an evening alone with me to curse me with her love spell. There also seems to be some confusion over which drive they saw together that night. Magdalene remembers it to be Demolition Man. Michael remembers it as Free Willy. Despite meeting Magdalene, Michael didnt desert me and we pursued our interests in gambling, excessive drinking, Playstation and being sick a lot. For me, the about significant moment during this time was Michael getting his ear pierced - even back then he was preparing for marriage - experiencing pain, hurt and buying jewellery.
